Brother Knights,

This past month Art Halstead and I had the opportunity to attend the KC State Convention, which was held in Des Moines on May 1st & 2nd.  Listed below are some of the highlights:

- 125 men joined the 4th degree

- Pennies from Heaven collections exceeded $30,000

-$24,000 was disbursed to the Newman Centers at Iowa, Iowa State, & UNI

- $2,500 donated to Birthright

- Several resolutions were considered and voted on regarding potential changes to insurance coverage eligibility.

- Individual awards were announced.

- Election for Supreme Convention delegates

- Election of new State Officers

- Convention Mass was held on Sunday with Bishop Richard Pates presiding.

Our April business meeting was held on April 22nd.  During our business meeting, we discussed the following items:

- Frank reviewed the final fish fry results; 1396 people served, $4,921 net profit

- $3,200 in concrete expenses have been paid by the KC’s so far.  We pledged to pay up to $5,000.

- State Convention delegates were finalized-  Todd Wieser & Art Halstead

- We discussed transferring $1,000 form our general fund to help start our “emergency fund”.

- We approved having a pancake breakfast on May 16th to benifit the Odyssey of the Mind team.

- A membership drive willbe held after the masses on April 24th & 25th.

- We discussed the status of our Adopt – A – Highway project.  Todd will check into this further and report back at the next meeting.

I just wanted to congratulate everyone for all of the work that has been done in raising money to put towards our building pledge.  After paying for the remaining concrete expenses, we will have paid approximately $12,000 towards our pledge.  Thanks again to everyone for helping make this happen!!

Congratulations to Fr. Dennis!!

Fr. Dennis was recognized for all that he has done for theKC’s while he has been here at St. Mary’s.  We wish him luck with his future parish!!

I just wanted to thank everyone for all of your hard work in completing our fish fry’s this year.  We had a record attendance this year.  Here are some of the final numbers:

1,396 people served

$9,042 donated

$4,126 expenses

$4,916 net income

The proceeds from our fish fry’s help support our councils many activities, the church building fund, and our various youth events.  Thanks again to everyone for their support.

Our March Council meeting was held at the church.  During our business meeting we discussed the following items:

- State Convention delegates were chosen; Todd Wieser & Art Halstead

- A motion was passed to donate $600 to the church for use of the kitchen for our fish fry’s.

- A motion was passed to donate $50 per night to the Squires for each of the nights that they helped.

- A motion was passed to purchase $30 of State Convention raffle tickets.

- There was a general discussion about setting up an emergency fund / endowment.
